Modern phones and laptops automatically use the faster 5GHz band when close, and fall back to 2.4GHz when further away.

Hidden in the wall

The W12 measures 86 x 86 x 32 mm and installs in a standard 86mm wall box, replacing a LAN socket. Cables stay hidden and the access point is protected from tampering, while a front LAN port still lets you plug in a TV, PC or IP phone.

Single-cable installation

Power and data arrive over one Ethernet cable from an 802.3af PoE switch, so no electrical socket is needed near the access point. Power draw is just 7.8W.

Designing a building network

Run Cat6 from each room to a PoE switch in the network rack, install a W12 in each room, and use one network name throughout. Pair it with a Tenda controller or managed router to configure all access points centrally and manage guest access.

Operating conditions

The W12 operates from -10°C to 45°C. In rooms without air conditioning, mount it away from direct sunlight.

W12 vs W6S

The W6S is a budget 2.4GHz model for light use. The W12 adds the 5GHz band and much higher speed, which makes a noticeable difference where many guests use video at the same time.
